EXHIBITION AT LIN XIANG XIONG MUSEUM |
MODERNE ART FAIR 2026

MUSEUM LIN XIANG XIONG ART GALLERY

EXHIBITION

In Penang, the “Pearl of the Orient”, a museum born of the sea fosters cultural dialogue.

The fair is delighted to enhance its programme and exhibition programme by welcoming the LIN Xiang Xiong Art Gallery Museum, a new leading institution in Asian contemporary art. From Penang to Paris, this young museum has established itself as a natural bridge between Asia, the Arab world and Europe. A space where cultures do not merely intersect, but engage in dialogue and enrich one another, centred on a shared conviction: that art can still be a universal language, serving the cause of understanding and human unity.

Its place of origin speaks volumes. In Penang, once a major trading hub on the Strait of Malacca, languages, peoples and cultures have been coming together for centuries. It is at the heart of this island of crossroads and cultural fusion that a unique venue, the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, has emerged: the LIN Xiang Xiong Art Gallery Museum. Opened in 2025, it is Malaysia’s first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, and is named after Professor Lin Xiang Xiong, a leading figure in socially engaged Asian art, whose work spans more than six decades of campaigning for peace, human dignity and the protection of nature. Dedicated to art and peace, the museum is far more than a showcase: it is a true manifesto open to the world.

For Moderne Art Fair, welcoming this institution is a natural extension of an edition centred on cultural exchange. By opening the fair up to South-East Asia – a region still under-represented at major Parisian events – the LIN Xiang Xiong Art Gallery Museum brings a fresh perspective, drawing on a wealth of influences, at the crossroads of East and West. Founded on an island shaped by maritime trade, it serves as a reminder that the finest creations often arise from encounters.

To celebrate its opening, the museum presented ‘Picasso and Lin Xiang Xiong – A Dialogue Across Time’, a rare immersion into the world of the Spanish master through posters, lithographs and illustrated books. This dialogue with Europe is now complemented by a focus on its own region: with ‘Equatorial Art, Nanyang Breeze’, more than sixty works reveal the vitality of a diverse Malaysian art scene, deeply rooted in its history whilst remaining resolutely open to the world.
