“Don Yuan” exhibition by Gianni Colosimo and Luisa Bruni

UNIQUE EXHIBITION
For the first time, artists Gianni Colosimo and Luisa Bruni are co-organising an exhibition entitled “Don Yuan” an immersive and evocative project presenting an artistic installation that is both environmental and political, inspired by China. This exhibition will be presented at the next edition of Moderne Art Fair in collaboration with the baudoin lebon gallery in Paris.

The rise of China by Gianni Colosimo and Luisa Bruni

This new exhibition project, which will be presented at the next edition of Moderne Art Fair 2024, is a variation on the exhibition “Wallpaper – Il vortice del desiderio è privo d’orizzonte” by Gianni Colosimo, presented in 2006 at the Pack gallery in Milan. This 2006 exhibition consisted of wallpapering the entire space with real one-dollar notes, so that the viewer was immediately drawn in and swallowed up by the walls and floor. In an empty, achromatic space, Gianni Colosimo’s installation “Wallpaper”, made up of thousands of dollar notes, deconstructs the decorative effect through the serial multiplication of images. The work, which recreates a white cube, questions the materiality and presence of money, recalling the works of Yves Klein and Groupe Zero, while parodying accumulation in the history of art.

The aesthetic of the new exhibition “Don Yuan”, presented at Moderne Art Fair, will be less minimal than that shown in 2006, with motifs specially created to refer to chinese iconography.
It is in this context that works inspired by the great Chinese epic, from the fall of the empire to the present day, will be presented.

In this installation, Gianni Colosimo and Luisa Bruni explore the extraordinary rise of the People’s Republic of China, highlighting the peculiarities and contradictions of a nation that today rivals the United States for political, economic and cultural supremacy.

This exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Riccardo Costantini gallery in Turin and the baudoin lebon gallery in Paris.

Biography: Gianni Colosimo

Gianni Colosimo began his career as a performer in 1977, taking part in the most significant exhibitions of Experimental Theatre and Performing Art. Between 1997 and 1998, he put on his most emblematic performance, earning 14 billion old lira playing the stock market. From 1999 to 2005, he reinvested the accumulated wealth by financing a theatre festival, “Torino chiama: Infinito Ltd Performing Art Festival”, and acting as a patron of the arts. In 2006, he began his career as a visual artist, creating the major installation “Wallpaper – Il vortice del desiderio è privo d’orizzonte” at Giampaolo Abbondio’s Galerie Pack in Milan, followed by numerous other exhibitions.
In March of this year, he married (for the fourth time!) Luisa Bruni, a well-known and multi-awarded artist in the field of contemporary jewellery (with exhibitions at the MAD Museum in New York and the Shanghai Center in Shanghai). They immediately embarked on an artistic partnership that led them to co-sign the now legendary exhibition “Don Yuan – There is milk and honey under your tongue” at the Riccardo Costantini gallery in Turin.
