Through the works of Charles Derenne and Jean-Luc Bertini, Crossing Views of America reveals an intimate and little-known America. Their images offer a sensitive portrait of the American landscape, where scenery, traces of the past and human presence tell a different story of America, beyond appearances.
With Los Angeles: Back Alleys, Charles Derenne explores the forgotten alleyways of Los Angeles over two months, travelling on foot and shooting on 35mm film. His photographs reveal an unfamiliar geography of the city, shaped by understated architecture, traces of the past and cinematic memory.
In Américaines Solitudes, Jean-Luc Bertini explores the place of the individual in the vastness of the American landscape through ten years of travel. His minimalist compositions capture suspended moments in which human presence encounters anonymity and solitude.
Between Derenne’s neglected spaces and Bertini’s immense territories, two perspectives converge to reveal an intimate America, where landscapes, memory and human presence tell another story of the United States.
